Laser Dentistry Odessa, TX

Laser dentistry is a recent advancement in dental technology that allows scientists and periodontists to perform many different treatments and procedures with much more ease and precision than the traditional manual way of using dental tools. It is possible to go to the dentist and see them using a dental laser for almost every treatment imaginable. While this may seem scary at first, once you experience laser dentistry for yourself, you will likely be grateful for how much easier and faster it makes going to the dentist for even the most routine of visits.

How does a laser work for dentistry?

The laser that your dentist or periodontist uses is typically a special nitrogen oxide laser made to be safe for the mouth but also incredibly gentle. Your dentist or periodontist uses this kind of laser because it is safe to remove plaque and debris without harming a patient’s mouth.

It can also be used to make small incisions. Still, it is nearly completely pain-free and actively sanitizes the area that it cuts open, making it one of the safest ways to have complex oral work done because there is a lower risk of infection.

The laser can also be manipulated very precisely, making it great for doing complex procedures, surgeries, and other treatments that would normally be done by hand. The trouble with doing procedures by hand for the dentist is that they are very invasive, and to get the job done, the dentist cannot be very gentle, which can be a problem for children and patients who have a fear of the dentist.

A dental laser eliminates the invasiveness of the dentist working by hand and is much more gentle than dental tools. This has made the dental laser the preferred mode of treatment for patients.

How does a periodontist use laser dentistry?

Periodontists are responsible for keeping your gums healthy. This is where using a laser is incredibly effective. Normally when we have our gums cleaned, it involves the dentist taking a pick and cleaning out the gums along the base of our teeth and inside the pockets where tools normally cannot reach.

With a dental laser, this process is simplified to the point that it takes less time, has virtually no recovery time, and is almost completely painless. The dental laser is able to remove plaque, tartar, and food debris from along the base of the teeth and inside those hard-to-reach pockets and crevices that a toothbrush and floss cannot reach.

Learn more about laser dentistry

Now that you know more about dental lasers and why they are used in the dentist’s office, you will feel much better if you go in for a treatment and your dentist decides to use one. A dental laser is the better way to have treatments performed because it is faster, safer, and nearly painless. This saves you time in the dentist’s office and during recovery since recovery times are reduced, and no one wants to deal with pain after going to the dentist.
